Green Seeks Insurance
Commissioners Job
Word from Inside the Camp
is that Eugene J. Green is being urged by several friends and supporters to enter
into the race to become Louisianas next Commissioner of Insurance.
Eugene Green, a Harvard graduate with a degree in Economics, has also earned a Master of
Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Tulane University. He has strong ties to the
business community, and is currently serving as President of the New Orleans Business
& Industrial District.
Eugene Green has presided over the operations of the largest designated industrial
district in the United States. With more than 115 businesses generating billions of
dollars, Green has worked steadfast on enhancing the once tarnished image of the Business
& Industrial District. Green has spearheaded legislative efforts to stop illegal
dumping into the area and has secured funding to begin conducting cleanup drives.
Eugene Greens entry into the race should provide the Democrats with a viable
African American candidate for this statewide office. Following the overwhelming
support provided by African American voters in the recent victory by Senator Mary
Landrieu and the recent fallout from the comments made by Senator Trent Lott,
the Louisiana Democratic Party would be hard pressed not to identify an African
American candidate for whom it could support. Eugene Greens business background,
proven integrity and educational training may provide the Democrats with an African
American candidate that they can promote outside of the New Orleans area in a unified
effort.
Prior to his stint with the industrial district, Green served as Executive Assistant to
the Mayor for Economic Development in New Orleans, facilitating major economic development
projects such as Jazzland Theme Park, the American Can Apartments, the Ritz Carlton Hotel,
Phase III of the Morial Convention Center, and the New Orleans Sports Arena. A licensed
realtor, Green also serves as Chief Executive Office and owner of Nationwide Real Estate
Corporation.
